What is atherosclerosis?
Atherosclerosis is where plaque builds up on the walls of the arteries. This causes hardening and narrowing of the arteries. Arteries that are narrowed and hardened have an even harder job pumping blood effectively throughout the human body. If blood is unable to circulate through the body efficiently it can cause a numerous amount of problems, such as a stroke, heart attack and possibly even death.

To help prevent atherosclerosis you should try eating a well balanced diet, lower high blood pressure, by exercising and maintaining a healthy body weight. Controlling diabetes will also help in the prevention of atherosclerosis, by eating healthy and exercising, and quitting cigarette smoking will help prevent the disease.

Great article Laura. I am one who has worked hard at staying away from fast food. You could have said that I was addicted to it. Life seems to get so busy that taking the time to shop for groceries and make a well rounded dinner are impossible. I also agree that exercise is very important for a healthy life. When I work out I have more energy and feel better. Your blog is a very important issue, and I enjoyed reading it.
